Kevin Smith once sold his comics and maxed his credit cards to give the world Clerks. The View Askew Universe was born.
All films are connected by various cross over characters, including the titular Jay and Silent Bob appearing in each chapter. While the films appear very linear, there is a hiccup that changes the order slightly. The second film, Mallrats, takes place one day before the events of Clerks. Beyond that the film series rolls as released.
As a bonus, knowing that Mallrats takes place one day before Clerks, watch the Willam character lose 150 lbs in one day.
