Hannibal Lecter

Once upon a time author Thomas Harris created a character. He was just a supporting character, used to help explain the emotional damage of the protagonist. We doubt Mr. Harris had any idea how far into pop culture this character would crawl. The character's name was Hannibal Lecter.

Hannibal became the evil the world loved to hate. He's the Darth Vader of serial killers. Hannibal is such a great character, that he has grown well beyond the pages turning 4 novels into 5 films and 3 seasons of television.

All the films and the television series tell a linear tale of Hannibal and the people orbiting him. One caveat: the novel Red Dragon was made into two separate films both telling the same tale. We have chosen to include the correctly titled Red Dragon film on the list not because it's superior to the far earlier Manhunter, but because it fits the style and feel of the rest of the franchise far better. If you've never seen it, however, please watch Manhunter after enjoying this chronological order.
