The Halloween series spans 11 movies and over four decades. Featuring the rise and fall (and fall, and fall, and... you get the idea) of Michael Myers, there have been many false starts and even a reboot over the years. One outing even lacks Mr Myers all together.
Unfortunately this actually causes some issues with the timeline. After some serious thought, and viewing of the 2018 Halloween, we have decided that there is no linear way to view everything. We believe there are actually 3 separate timelines and one entirely optional movie.
We will call this admittedly short viewing order the true continuity. John Carpenter came back to the series 40 years after creating it and built a true direct sequel to the original. There are no mentions of any of the other films and the 2018 film actually goes out of its way to ignore the existence of any films save the first.
Halloween (1978)
Halloween (2018)
We will call this the bread and butter continuity. Containing most of the films, this is the marathon viewing order. A few notes: There is no way to really include the 2018 film and have it make sense as its a direct sequel to the original. Halloween III Season of the Witch has been included, but is entirely optional. It's a solid film, but features absolutely zero Michael Myers. What it lacks in Boogeyman, it makes us with one of the most infectious jingles in film history. You've been warned.
Halloween (1978)
Halloween II (1981)
Halloween III: Season of the Witch Optional
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Mysers
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later
Halloween: Resurrection
Finally we have the Rob Zombie directed reboots. These films stand as their own arc.
Halloween (2007)
Halloween II (2009)
